Rare Flowerpot / Pickguard
This 2024 Custom Collings MF-5 is in fantastic shape, with only very slight signs of player wear. Sunburst Carpathian Spruce top, Flame Hard Maple back, sides, and “V” profile neck. We don’t use the term, “Mint”, but this one would be a contender for that rank. No player wear at all.
Collings has a great set of appointments on their MF-5’s. They are made with the highest grade of woods and metal parts and with perfect colorings and finish work. They all are fully bound, in this case, with ivoroid mutiple bindings on peghead, fingerboard, and top and back of body. The Flowerpot inlay in peghead is wonderful. Ebony abbreviated pickguard.
The Ebony peghead overlay has a perfect pearl/abalone flowerpot inlay, which is very rare for a Collings F model. “Collings” pearl logo is inlaid above the flowerpot. Nickel Gotoh 4-on-a-plate tuners with ivoroid buttons. Bone Nut. Ebony fingerboard has graduated pearl dot inlays, and black side dot position markers on the bass side of the ivoroid fingerboard binding. The neck profile is a rounded “V”. The neck is in great shape with no wear. The Gabon Ebony radiused fingerboard has a stylized end.
The Sunburst Red Spruce top has a two-piece Ebony adjustable bridge, an abbreviated tortoise pickguard bound in ivoroid, and a Collings nickel tailpiece. The highly figured Maple sides and back are exquisite and really look great with the wonderful sunburst finish. Two-pc bookmatched Maple back. Ebony endpin.
The wonderful U.S. made original hard case is the perfect complement to the instrument.
This is a great mandolin to invest in. Not only is it a wonderfully made instrument, using finest materials and methods; but it also has a wonderful tone that yields a throaty “chop” while also delivering clean and pure highs that are not shrill at all. And… it’s not yet fully broken-in.
