Handsome Brown over an Amber Ground
This new Evan Smith Strad model violin with brown/amber varnish finish is quite a nice violin. Sourced from high grade Maple and Salmon River wild growth Englemann Spruce, they are lovingly handbuilt by Evan Smith, a noted Idaho violin maker with decades of experience building and voicing violins. The varnish finish is also handmade by Mr. Smith, using tree resins and pitch from the same areas of Idaho.
These violins are in the hands of many capable players; Western swing players, orchestra players, fiddle contesters, teachers, and more famous violinists like Emily Franz, of “Watch House”.
Through the years we’ve noticed that the most experienced players who come to our store to try out some violins usually pause for a while when they get to the Evan Smith violins. This happens even while surrounded by lots of other high grade tone producing violins.
I could go on and on about these fine violins. Suffice to say that they get a lot of respect from experienced players.
