This recent 11″ Whyte Laydie #2 banjo, made by Leonard Coulson of “Intermountain Guitar & Banjo” fame, is a nicely made instrument. It looks like an original Vega Whyte Laydie #2.
The condition is real close to mint condition, but there is some slight clouding on the Nickel parts.

If you are a Vega fan you probably are very aware of who Leo Coulson is. He is one of a very few builders who have reached guru status among collectors, for using correct woods, metal parts and methods to recreate many fine replica banjo copies of Fairbanks and Vegas, particularly.

This banjo was hardly ever played. There is only slight discoloration on the head. No bad dings, dents, scratches… no repairs, etc. This is one prime condition banjo.

Maple neck and rim. Macassar Ebony  peghead veneer and Ebony fingerboard have wonderful Vega no.2 hand-engraved pearl inlays. Ebony heelcap. Two-pc Maple neck with thin Ebony stringer centered in the back of neck. Proper stacking of Maple/Ebony under peghead veneer and heelcap.
Very nice Dowel Stick, with Leonard Coulson stamp, serial number and “no.2” all stamped in. The Maple rim is finished inside and out with tortoise bindings.

Traditional 28 Shoe and Hook construction, with the nuts having round ball that doesn’t dig into your leg when playing while seated.

The tone is pleasant with a solid “pop” attack… even with no dampener inside the rim.

Comes with good hard case.
