This 1908 Gibson H-1 is a great sounding mandola. It has had regular maintenance and is set up and ready to play.

The Ebony peghead overlay has the “The Gibson” abalone inlay at top. The Nickel tuners are really in good shape and have excellent condition cream buttons. Bone nut. The Ebony fingerboard is bound in Ivoroid, and has M.O.P dot inlays and black side dot position markers on the bass side of the fingerboard. The two-piece Maple “V” profile neck has an Ebony stringer along the center. Nickel strap button installed in the correct location on the heel. The Spruce top has a simple two ring half-herringbone soundhole rosette and the soundhole is bound along the inside edge. The Spruce top is bound with cream binding. Newer Ebony adjustable bridge and the original Gibson tailpiece with “The Gibson” engraved in the center. Ebony end pin with a pearl dot. The Mahogany back is not bound.

This 1908 Gibson Mandola is in great playing condition, but there is some player wear to mention. The Spruce top has its fair share of touch marks and dings, but most are very minor. There is one spot on the treble side of the top where the old pickguard clamp fastened onto the top edge. The Mahogany back has the same but opposite mark from the old pickguard clamp.

There haven’t been too many repairs on this fine old Mandola. The original tiny frets have been replaced with newer more standard sized frets. The back and side were apart near the endpin area, but have been reglued. The bridge was replaced with a newer ebony Loar style adjustable intonated 2-pc bridge. The fingerboard has been professionally rebound with grained ivoroid. The neck may have had a “speed neck” done to it at one time, and then professionally finished over – the job is excellent and most people wouldn’t see that anything was done. Original pickguard missing

Overall this instrument sounds fantastic and plays just as well. This Mandola is ready to go on stage. Comes with a hard case.
