This 1925 vintage Gibson F-2 is a good player’s instrument. The frets are in fine condition, it has a good old adjustable ’40’s era bridge, the famous Handel inlaid buttons on the original tuners, and it has the original Gibson tailpiece.

The back of the neck reveals the work done to this mandolin to lengthen the neck so that the neck joins the body at the 13th fret instead of the 11th fret. This means the player enjoys a modern feel of better accessibility with the longer neck joint fit! It is not known who performed this work. The neck was cut and a “middle piece” was added, to create the approx. 1″ longer neck. New fingerboard alignment was performed. The back of neck shows some adaptive woods beneath the fingerboard. The fingerboard was re-bound with modern grained ivoroid. This new binding shows checking at 7 or 8 places along the sides of the fingerboard.

The blackened peghead veneer hasĀ The GibsonĀ pearl logo inlaid at top, with newer figured pearl truss rod cover just above the old Ivory nut. Handel tuners.

The Spruce top shows the original cherry sunburst finish. The back and sides show bright cherry red translucent finish color over the figured Maple. The top edge and the soundhole rosette show non-grained ivoroid bindings. The Soundhole rosette has this ivoroid inlaid inside the soundhole and in the center of the soundhole rosette, bracketed by wooden “hound’s tooth” marquetry.

This is a nice player’s instrument. It plays good and sounds good. It comes with its original Hard Case.
