This 1934 Gibson L-00 is pretty nice, with only one area of repairs… There are two cracks that have been re-repaired that are visible from the right side of center seam from the bridge and downwards toward the binding. Both are now repaired nicely, but the previous repair left some tobacco brown or black stain from touching up the repair, plainly seen in the photos. There is a slight inside pickguard crack that is repaired.
Tapered headstock. The black overlay has Gibson silkscreen logo at top and truss rod cover. Radiused Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard with medium MOP dots inlay. Frets appear to be original and in good shape, recently ground and polished – both the frets and the f.b. are in nice shape. The Mahagony neck has a full triangular profile. The back of PH, back of neck, back and sides of body are quite wonderfully untouched, with only a sprinkling of touch marks here and there. The original finish is mostly unscathed all around the guitar except for the crack repair area below the bridge and that area is only touch-up.
The body shows its origin year. The 1934 sunburst Gibsons usually have the tight circular area of sunburst around the bridge area. Cream binding around the top edge of the guitar. The bridge is a newer Rosewood correct replacement. The tuners are original 3-on-a-plate and are intact and working. But – 2 or 3 of the tuners are stiff to turn. They have original matching ivoroid buttons.
The set-up is very good and the neck is at a nice angle for low action. The saddle is fresh bone and is set at the right height. The tone has lots of string separation that is balanced and well articulated. The entire guitar is “alive” with resonance when you strum a full chord.
Currently is a slightly oversized hard case.
