We just had our amp tech do a full inspection and appraisal. Here is what he found: The amp is, to a reasonable degree of certainty, all original besides the tube compliment and a missing tube shield. The amp is likely from the middle of the 1955 production run with serial number 800. Pots are dated to the 3rd week, speaker to the 15th week, and filter caps to the 17th week of 1955. The cabinet is the typical 20” wide version and not the more rare “small box” from early 1955. The ink stamp on the tube chart is not visible and there are no datecodes on the transformers. The rectifier tube and power tubes are old stock American tubes and the preamp tubes are new production Electro Harmonix 12AX7. The v1 tube should be a 12AY7 but had been previously replaced by a 12AX7.

*Currently not in safe condition to play: It is not recommended to operate the amp until it has been electrically restored or unless by someone with the proper equipment and experience to do so safely. The center tap wire for the tube heaters is just floating, exposed in the cabinet; It shouldn’t touch anything so it is recommended that this be properly heat-shrinked and insulated. Cosmetically, the amp has wear especially on the corners and edges with some peeling tolex elsewhere but the rest of the tweed for the most part is not fraying. The chrome chassis is fading and has some flaking and rust pitting. Most of the lettering is intact but there are a few characters that are missing. The original handle is cracking so it’s recommended to consider removing and retaining it and replacing it with a new reproduction type so the amp can be carried safely.

This amp needs some love to be a player, but it is almost all original. We are selling this amp “as is” due to the owners request. To have this amp shipped, it will need a full dissasembly to ensure there is no damage to any fragile piece. Feel free to call us with any specific questions.
