This 1974 Gibson Howard Roberts Custom is in great shape. It has the occasional ding or scratch, but there is no major wear that immediately stands out. Nice low action, and it sounds great acoustically or plugged in. Birdseye Maple top, back, sides, and “C” profile neck.
The bound Ebony peghead overlay features “Gibson” inlaid at the trop, with a detailed three-tier flower inlay in the center. Truss rod access above the nut. Large nickel Kluson tuners. Rosewood fingerboard with pearl rectangle inlays, and black side dot position markers on the cream fingerboard binding. “C” profile Maple neck has a few slight dings, but they are not noticeable when playing.
The Birdseye Maple top has some general dings and scratches from player wear, but it is in good shape overall. Bound tortoise floating pickguard with nickel hardware. Two-piece tune-o-matic bridge with Ebony base (pearl inlay on each side). Large nickel trapeze tailpiece with a plate in the center that reads “Howard Roberts”. Single humbucking pickup. Six black and cream lines of purfling before the cream binding on the top edge. The Maple back and sides are in good shape with some spread out dings and scratches. Two small areas on the back have mysterious blemishing in the finish.
This 1974 Gibson Howard Roberts is a really fun guitar to play, and it is also in great shape. Comes with a period correct hard case.
