This 2002 Gibson L-4A with rounded cutaway and Wine Red finish is quite beautiful and has good utility. The action is nice and low with good sound. The shape is identical to a cutaway Gibson “J-185” size but the appointments vary slightly. Mainly, this L-4A has trapezoid pearl inlays in the fingerboard, while a J-185 has parallelogram pearl inlays. Gold Grover Rotomatic tuners.
The L-4A has an ebony peghead veneer with Gibson pearl logo inlaid at top and pearl crown in center. Truss rod access above the nut with white/black plastic cover. Rosewood fingerboard with pearl trapezoid inlays and white side dots. Back of neck is 3-piece figured Maple with a “C” profile.
Rounded cutaway body with top and back edge bound with white binding. Top edge shows black/white purfling line as well as white neck heel cap with extra black/white accent. White end wedge. Soundhole rosette has a wide colorful abalone circle inbetween two concentric circles of thin black/wh/blk purflings. Rosewood bridge with original intonated saddle and Rosewood pins. The nut is also original synthetic material, such as “Tusq”, or similar. The pickguard is two layers – thin white layer on bottom with black top layer.
There is very little sign of prior playing on this guitar. There are two slight dings in the top and one slight impression in the lacquer in back of neck around the 2nd fret area. Your thumb doesn’t interact with this area.
Everything is a “green light” on this guitar. There is NO fret wear.
Comes with its original Gibson case.
