This 2017 Elkhorn A5 Dlx Mandolin is in excellent condition with minimal play-wear. Robb Brophy is known to build his Elkhorn Mandolins using carefully selected woods and top of the line parts – this one is no exception.

It features a traditional maple and spruce body with a one-piece violin-grade tiger maple back. The spruce top is very high grade, although we are not sure of the species. The tuners are gold Waverly with solid pearl buttons. The ebony peghead veneer has an Elkhorn logo in pearl with a large pearl flowerpot and a wooden truss rod access cover. The nut is made of high-quality bone, similar in appearance to elk bone. The radiused ebony fingerboard has medium pearl dot inlays and gold EVO frets. The body has a beautiful sunburst finish on the back, sides, and neck, with a the back of the peghead “blackened”. The bridge is a traditional Loar-style two-piece ebony adjustable bridge with gold thumbwheels. There is also a matching ebony armrest.

The mandolin also features a stunning satin gold James tailpiece, engraved with an elkhorn design. The sides, back, and back of the neck are exceptional quality maple, with a blackened peghead back. The neck has a very comfortable rounded V profile that is slim and compact, with a horn strap button installed on the heel. The fingerboard has a double-cut extension with binding that follows the full edge.

This mandolin is fully multiple-bound “Deluxe” style. There is ivoroid binding with black accent line around the headstock, fingerboard, top, and back edge.

Overall, this mandolin is beautifully crafted, has a very nice strong tone, and comes with a hard case. The traditional design and high-quality features make it a great choice for any musician looking for a top-notch mandolin.
