Ziricote / Carpathian Spruce
This 2018 Sicko & Son OM is a really nice sounding instrument in good playing shape. Carpathian Spruce top, Ziricote back and sides, and a vintage profile Mahogany neck.
This guitar is the first example of the work by Mr Sicko & Son that we have seen, and I have to say that it qualifies as a master made perfection oriented guitar.
Great materials: Ziricote back and sides; Carpathian Spruce top; Mahogany neck; Gabon Ebony F.B. & Bridge; Peruvian Walnut bindings, heelcap and end wedge; Bone nut and bone intonated saddle.
The Ziricote peghead overlay features a “Sicko” pearl inlay at the top. Nickel open-back Waverly tuners with Nickel lobed buttons. Bone Nut. The Ebony fingerboard does not have any inlays, but it does have ivoroid side dot position markers. “D” profile Mahogany neck does not have any wear. The inside of the Soundhole is bound and the Rosette seems to be Ebony with multiple purflings.
Gabon Ebony bridge has an intonated bone saddle. The Peruvian Walnut body bindings and end wedge are enhanced by multiple wood strips purflings. The endwedge is mitre’d to the top and back bindings perfectly. Rosewood bridge pins and endpin – all with gold & pearl “Paris eye”.
The Spruce top has a couple light scratches, and a small area of finger/pick wear where the pickguard would be. There is a 1″-2″ crack on the bass side of the upper bout by the wooden binding on the top edge and a small check in the wood beside the center seam below the bridge at the binding. The Ziricote back and sides are in good shape with light signs of handling.
This 2018 Sicko & Son OM is a fun guitar to play. Good set-up and playability. The sound is clear and nuanced perfectly.
