Very beautiful mandolin! Flame figure Claro Walnut back and sides with select Western Red Cedar top. If you’ve been looking at the Tom Sheehy “Blues Hardware” instruments we’ve had over the last few years, you are used to seeing smart modern technology mixed with old world craftsmanship. Tom mills all of the wood and makes all other parts except for the tuners. This mandolin features offset small delta soundholes – one in upper bass side and one in lower treble side. Tom’s use of soundholes is done in part from our urging. He builds very strong oval hole and soundhole mandolins and mandolas. We also notice that his use of Cedar tops works to make fine sounding mandolins, too.

Walnut peghead overlay, with modern trillium inlay at top. Walnut pickguard and heelcap. Jotoba wood fingerboard, adjustable bridge and tailpiece cap. Flamed Maple bindings along fingerboard and around top and back edge of body.

Step back from the stereotype of what a mandolin “should be” and think about what a mandolin “could be”.
After you feel the ease of playing and hear the great voice, you may feel that Tom is making mandolins “just right”.
Wonderful attack, tone and volume.

Here is Billy Parker demonstrating this mandolin with audio.
