Description
This new violin (ok, “fiddle”), from Tom Sheehy at Blues Hardware, is a surprisingly good sounding and playing instrument.
Unconventionally made, with no peghead scroll and no points at the “C-bouts. The size and shape still hark back to traditionally made violins.
Crazily figured Maple back, sides and neck. Spruce top. The back and the neck are 2-pc and are bookmatched. The back has inlaid purflings around the edges. The peghead is sculpted to be “swan-like”.
The fingerboard appears to be Jotoba. Boxwood pegs. Modern black chin rest and tailpiece. Tailpiece has 4 fine tuners. Ebony endpin with Paris Eye pearl dot.
The Spruce top has the traditional overhang at the edges as well as inlaid purflings all around the top.
