Roundneck
This 1930 National Style-1 Tricone Roundneck is a rare find. From when they were first produced in about 1927, most of the Tricone models were Squareneck versions. This is primarily because of the popularity of Hawaiian lap playing. Roundneck Tricones have always been an elusive guitar to acquire. One reason they are so popular is the three separate cones in the body. The cones cause somewhat less power and intensity than a single-cone guitar, but with more ambient information that has less of the hollow echo effect and more lyrical beauty than the single cones have.
The one-pc Mahogany neck has a slotted peghead and original engraved 3-on-a-plate open-back tuners with matching ivoroid buttons (one button is a replacement).
Bone Nut. The National Decal Logo has fallen off. We are currently awaiting a replacement Logo from National company.
The Ebony fingerboard is in fine condition with original frets and original binding. MOP large dot inlays. Original grained ivoroid bindings around the fingerboard.
The Nickel plating over the German Silver body is very intact and shows only a smattering of “pin-pricks” of oxidation. The armrest shows small sign of having to be straightened out at one corner.
The body shape is very nice. Many of these have dents around the body corner/edges… but not this one. Just normal player wear from handling the guitar correctly and playing it.
*This guitar is in fine shape with recent professional neck set and playing set-up. We rated it as “Exc-” instead of “VG+” because it is mostly the mottled lacquer on back of neck that shows less than an ideal cosmetic look, along with the missing logo decal… But the neck is exemplary in its original condition with no bangs or dings on back of neck that would affect playing. And the body just has some normal light wear and dings from handling and playing.
