Strong “Bearclaw” figured top

This 1960 Martin 00-16 NY is a great sounding guitar that’s in good playing shape. It has some finish checking and player markings, but it has been played enough to where it has fully opened up. Possibly an Engelmann Spruce top with Cuban Mahogany back, sides, and neck.

The slotted Brazilian Rosewood peghead overlay features the “Martin & Co. Est. 1833” decal at the top. Original Nickel 3-on-a-plate tuners with white plastic buttons. The peghead shows some normal aging finish checking. Appears to be the original Ivory Nut. Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard does not have any inlays, but it does have side dot position markers. “V” profile Mahogany neck has a good amount of player wear especially on the bass edges, but it is shaped nicely and the wear doesn’t hinder the playability. Strap button installed in the correct position on the heel.

The Spruce top has a fair amount of finish checking as well as some dings and scratches, but those are pretty much ignored once you see how strong and widespread the wonderful “Bearclaw” figure is in the Spruce grain. Rosewood bridge with bone saddle and black plastic pins with white dots. Four lines of purfling before the tortoise binding on the top edge. The Mahogany back and sides are in great shape, with just some random marks here and there and one zig-zag scratch on the back. The back of neck is also worth noting. The back of neck has no problems. The neck profile is a great feeling vintage profile that you can just barely feel the prominent ridge line in back.

This 1960 Martin 00-16 NY is a very fun guitar to play. The neck is a great vintage profile – slightly wider than a typical guitar, but it is not such a deep “V” to where it is an issue. In fact, the width and depth of this neck is very comfortable for fingerpicking. This Martin has its fair share of dings, scratches, and finish checking, but the finish is all original and the sound and playability make it so those blemishes are easily ignored.

There are two areas of some wear: Between the 2nd and 7th frets on bass side there are uneven areas at the fingerboard, probably from sloppy use of a capo. And, the back corner edge of the treble side of guitar back has wear along the unbound edge (this is not a problem that needs any attention).

Comes with a hard case.
