This is a pretty hot bass. It was owned by a local player and luthier, Paul Hudgeons, for years.  Paul had his friend, George Weisel, also a local luthier, refinish the body in about 1992.  George Weisel is celebrated regionally in these parts as one of the most knowledgeable and experienced luthiers ever. He is known mostly for a level of perfection that is hard to obtain, over a wide variety of great instruments. This refinish was done so well on this ’62 P-Bass that even today in 2026, there is almost no tell-tale evidence of a refinish. This is why I mention Geroge Weisel in such glowing terms. George volunteered that you can tell it’s a refin if you look closely in the neck pocket. Anyway, it is a beautiful job that is talked about around here 34 years after it was done!

Ok, I’ll be quick…
The neck is a Maple neck with slab board Rosewood fingerboard. Could be the original frets. Clay dot inlays in F.B. Bone nut may be original. Original tuners. This guitar is set up with 2 ways to wear a strap, either endpin to bass side cutaway horn, or from endpin to back of headstock. This neck was fit very well by the set-up crew at Fender in 1962. Comfortable “C” neck profile. Back of neck has some player wear thru the finish.

The body is quite nice. The Refin is a beautiful three color sunburst, over an Alder body. It has the perfect amount of finish checking for a 1962 birth year guitar.
Original tortoise with white/black/white layers underneath the tortoise guard. Twp pickups come with the guitar. One is the original P-bass pickup – it is in the case. A newer pickup (Seymour Duncan, perhaps), is currently installed in the guitar. It also has the tailpiece cover and a Jazz Bass pickup cover. The case is a G&G Brown tolex 1962 reissue case from Fender.
