1998 Martin 0-45JB Joan Baez Signature Guitar no. 42 of 59 – SOLD

Description

Exc (+) Condition • Serial number 664331 • No. 42 of 59 • Signed by Joan Baez and C.F. Martin IV
Scale length: 24.9″ •  Width at nut: 1 7/8″ •  Pin spacing: 2 3/8″

Indian Rosewood back and sides. Select Sitka Spruce top. Mahogany neck. This guitar is finely appointed, faithful to pre-War 0-45s in design and sound.

Neck has slotted peghead with Rosewood veneer and intricate style 45 torch inlay. Peghead is multiple ivoroid bound. The Gabon Ebony fingerboard is more steeply radiused, in Martin’s pre-War fashion. Abalone snowflakes and cat eye inlay in fingerboard with Joan Baez signature inlay at 19th fret. Fingerboard bound with simple ivoroid binding. Ivoroid heelcap. All quarters of body show abalone purflings. This abalone is seen along top edge, around fingerboard extension, in soundhole rosette, on sides of neck heel, on upper and lower of both body sides, and around the back edge. Ivoroid endwedge is beautifully mitered with abalone.

Tuners appear to be Sloane tuners – brass with ivoroid buttons. Bone nut and bone cut-through saddle. Bone or fossilized ivory bridgepins and endpin with large abalone inlay in each pin. No strap button has ever been installed. Red tortoise plastic pickguard.

Back of peghead stamped with C.F. Martin & Co branding into the wood. Diamond volute behind nut. Rounded “V” neck profile.

This is definitely one of the finest sounding small body Martins we have had through here in a long time. The notes fly out of the guitar. It has surprisingly big bottom end. Plays so easy. Especially well suited for fingerstyle.

Only 59 of these guitars were ever made and they are highly sought after. Comes with original hard case. Please call for price (406) 327-9925.
