This 2014 Martin 000-17SM was only produced for a couple of years and then was discontinued. After playing on this guitar for a little while it is hard to say why Martin discontinued this model. It plays very nicely and it has good opened-up tone. This is a pretty basic guitar in terms of appointments, with a minimal amount of binding and inlays. It has a gloss finish Spruce top, with satin finished Mahogany back, sides, and neck.

The slotted peghead features a Indian Rosewood peghead overlay with the classic “Martin & Co. EST. 1833” decal at the top. Golden Age Restoration tuners with cream buttons. Bone nut. The Rosewood fingerboard has small diamond and square abalone inlays, and yellow side dot position markers. The modified shallow “U” profile neck is in good shape with some lights dings on the center of the back of the neck in the first few positions. This wear most likely came from a capo, and it is not that noticeable while playing. The frets have very light wear.

The gloss Spruce top shows most of the wear on this Martin. It has generous player wear on the treble side of the top above and below the pickguard. It also has a fair amount of wear on the rest of the top, and it looks to have about a two-inch crack repair on the bass side of the top by the lower bout. Both sides of waist binding look to have been reglued. This wear is just aesthetic and doesn’t affect the structural integrity of the top. Rosewood bridge features Rosewood bridge pins with abalone dots, and a bone saddle. Faux tortoise pickguard and binding. Pickup volume control on the bass side of the inner soundhole.

The Mahogany back and sides are in better aesthetic shape than the top, with some spread out dings and scratches from player wear. It also has about a 13 inch crack repair on the treble side of the Mahogany sides with a few cleats installed. One area on the bass side of the lower bout on the sides by the binding looks to have been damaged and repaired. Pickup access in the typical place of an end pin.

This 2014 Martin 000-17SM does have its fair share of player wear and various crack repairs, but it is in really nice playing shape and it has good tone. Comes with a non-original hard case.
