A brand-new Collings MF Deluxe mandolin! These are quite handsome instruments that also sound so “dialed-in” that they are always in demand. Starting with the MF mandolin as the base model, this MF Deluxe version has quite a few upgrades in appointments: better grade woods, better finish, more bindings, pickguard, etc.
The Ebony peghead overlay is bound with ivoroid bindings at the top edge. Pearl Collings logo inlaid at top. Ebony truss rod cover just above the bone nut. Radiused Gabon Ebony fingerboard w/ graduated pearl dot inlays. Ivoroid bound fingerboard. Small side dots along bass side of F.B. bindings. The back of neck has a wonderful rounded “V” profile that is filled wall to wall with Maple figure. The fingerboard ends over the body with a swooping end of the fingerboard.
The body is a work of art, with a perfect glossy lacquer sunburst Red Spruce top and a strongly figured Eastern Maple bookmatched back and sides. The carving lines of the top and back are exquisitely done! All of it shows excellence in manufacture: The neck shape, the feel and the fit to the body; the f-holes; the points and scroll work; the edges and corners… ALL of it! This is so beautiful it could be on the shelf of an instrument museum or a fine art museum…
Excellent parts all around this mandolin, from the Gotoh Tuners to the bone nut, the Ebony abbreviated pickguard with white binding, the 2-pc adjustable Ebony bridge, and others.
This mandolin has joined the ranks of our upper sound quality mandolins. It has a startingly great sound.
