Early Leo Era / No Fret Wear

Ah, here is a low serial number G&L S-500 from the “early Leo era” first years. It has all original parts, excellent neck, great pickups and no problems and no repairs. There are some small surface dings and light scratches here and there but no finish checking or flaking. No fret wear.
Maple neck with stringer along the back center. Original Sperzel(?) tuners. Single string tree for all three treble strings. Truss rod access at lower part of peghead.
All decals are intact on headstock. Bone nut. Unbound Ebony fingerboard with pearloid dots and side dots for position markers. 22-Frets. Jumbo frets.
Three-bolt neck joint with easy Allen set screw adjustment of neck angle.
The black body color works quite well with the Ebony fingerboard, black pickguard and black coverplates. Reminiscent of a “strat” body, it has double cutaway, 3 single coil p/u’s, master volume, separate treble and bass tone controls, 5-way selector switch and tremolo. Strap buttons are factory installed at end pin and on bass cutaway horn.
Mrs Fender, Leo’s wife and owner of G&L Guitars, told me that 100% of ALL G&L instruments were made with the exact same basic Drill Press, Sander, Planer and Band Saw that all early Fenders were made on, from the first Broadcaster and for many years after. These key shop tools and machines were Leo Fender’s personal “tools of the trade” and were not sold to CBS along with the Fender Co.
This is a fine guitar that is in great shape and it plays great and sounds great. Comes in its original hard case.
